Louis R. Reyes is a recognized leader and government relations professional with over ten years of working closely with various local, state and federal elected officials and community leaders in the greater Los Angeles area.
Louis is the Principal of Reyes Public Affairs, which specializes in utilizing online media and web-based technology with traditional strategies of issue and campaign management, community relations and strategic communications.
Recently, Louis has worked as a Senior Associate with a public affairs firm based in the city of Los Angeles specializing in Latino community outreach campaigns and government relations. Prior, he served as the District Director for a California Assembly Member representing the 56th District where he was the primary community liaison and managed all district staff, operations and programs.
In addition, he was a Business Development Consultant for an Internet development firm specializing in business, political and nonprofit websites where he conducted need assessments and implemented successful plans for his clients such as online marketing promotions, social networking strategies, web-based communities and creating paperless organizations.
Louis first began in politics as the Policy Director of the California Student Association for Community Colleges (CalSACC) in Sacramento in 1997 where he first began to use the Internet as an advocacy organizing tool in order to moblize students on legislative issues. At that time, he was recognized as a trailblazer for his utilization of new technologies to maintain strategic communications with 109 member campuses and 1.2 million students throughout California.
One of his passions is developing and mentoring new leaders in the community. Currently, he serves as Co-chair and founding member of the Madrinas Padrinos Leadership Program (MPLP) of the California Latino Caucus Institute. In this capacity, he is helping to create the next generation of young Latino professional leaders in the greater Los Angeles region. During the last four years, he has led a team of dedicated individuals to organize a group of young professionals from a committee of 15 to an online membership of over 400 professionals in private, public and nonprofit industries utilizing WEB 2.0 strategies.
A leader in Democratic politics, he held the position of Director of Region 15 of California Democratic Party (CDP) for six years, an elected Executive Officer position overseeing the largest Democratic Latino voter base in California. During his tenure, he was one of the first Directors to build an online database and use email listserves to coordinate Democratic activities and provide rapid reponse communications to the grassroots activists. He currently serves as a CDP Executive Board and is a member of the legislative committee and Latino Caucus.
Louis is in the process of organizing community-based political coalition called the Democratic Community Council (DCC) that will be a web-based organization focusing on a particular geographical area. The DCC mission will focus on grassroots fundraising, community organizing,developing new Democratic activists with ethics based democratic principles and assisting local elected officials in their ongoing leadership development.
A graduate of USC, Louis holds a BS in Public Policy and Management. He is also a graduate of Rio Hondo College where he studied Business Administration and was elected to serve as Student Trustee and President of Associated Student Body. Originally from East Los Angeles, Louis is the eldest of eight brothers and sisters and has lived in the city of Whittier for the past 18 years.
