Elizabeth currently serves as the Regional Director with LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program. In this capacity Elizabeth oversees the management of after school programming for 9,000+ elementary students at 58 LAUSD elementary schools in underserved communities. Elizabeth is responsible for ensuring that the 500 + staff members in her region are receiving the developmental support they need to be successful in keeping children safe and engaged. In working with staff, Elizabeth's strength's lie in helping staff find and learn to leverage their hidden skills and talents.
Prior to her work at LA's BEST, Elizabeth worked as a Graduate Program Intern with Teens Against Gang Violence in Dorchester, MA whose mission was to empower youth leaders to educate others about non-violence. She has also worked with Project GEAR UP, a college preparatory program, seving middle school and high school students in the East Los Angeles area, where she worked extensively with parents, faculty and the school community to prepare students to successfully prepare for and enter college.
Elizabeth sits on the Board of Directors for Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. She is a mentor at Schurr High School, with the College Bound Today Program. Elizabeth has presented workshops at Proyecto Pastoral's Annual Women's Conference, which is the only community-based Women’s Conference in Boyle Heights.
Elizabeth used her passion and commitment to the sport of water polo as a catalyst to pursuing her goals. After attending Mt. San Antonio College, she attended San Jose State University on a water polo scholarship, where she was an All-American selection. There she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She then received her Master of Education degree, with an emphasis on Risk and Resiliency in Adolescence from Harvard University. Elizabeth was raised in Koreatown and East LA by a single mother. She currently resides in Boyle Heights.
